Bajesdorps’ social and cultural centre The Muiterij is currently a home to Syrian artist Raafat Ballan. Living in the Netherlands since only a couple of months, Raafat paints portraits through which he expresses his vision of truth –the most important thing in his art. Through his vision he explores the honest facial expressions of people hidden behind the masks we wear. He looks for the truth in the constantly changing expressions of the people he encounters and finishes his vision using the lines and the colours. Through his work Raafat endeavours to present his feeling about the faces that he observes.

While working on his portraits Raafat teaches local and refugee kids. In a weekly workshop he works with them on lines, colour and different drawing techniques.
